FAQs

Studio Bust’s home is in Hampshire, just an hour outside of London, but we regularly meet clients for appointments in beautiful spaces in London and occasionally in other locations around the world. Wherever you meet us, you’ll find a luxurious space and relaxed surroundings to make for a truly memorable experience. Wherever we pop-up, our goal is for every visitor to feel welcome, completely comfortable and to leave feeling inspired. Sign up to our mailing list to be the first to hear where we’ll be and when.

Our scanner uses structured light technology to create a triangulated image of your body. During the scanning process, we will walk around you several times, holding the scanner about 1 meter away from your body, moving it up and down. The scanner produces patterned flashes of regular white light (no laser or UV). Then, similar to a camera, it records the reflected light at an average speed of 16 frames per second. Using sophisticated algorithms the software “stitches” these frames together. Your scanned image will be immediately available for you to preview on screen during your appointment but at this point it will look out of alignment. After your appointment we carefully edit the image to ensure the skin has a smooth and even surface to produce the highest quality print.

All of our Busts are printed, crafted and finished in England. We only work with a select few workshops that have expert craftsmanship and are committed to social and environmental responsibility. Our Bronze Busts are cast at a wonderful Foundry local to us in Hampshire. We take a hands-on approach, working very closely alongside the expert team of artisans who welcome our involvement in the creative process. We visit most weeks to try and test new ideas and see our Busts in the making.

We have two collections to suit different tastes and budgets. Busts in our Liberty collection are printed in a range of different PLAs. PLA stands for Polylactic Acid and is a biodegradable, eco friendly plastic, produced from renewable resources such as sugarcane. Busts in our Legacy collection are cast in Bronze using a lost wax technique.

We never say never, but for now, we are for women over 18 only.

No, you don’t need to do anything in advance of your session. At your appointment you’ll have the chance to see, feel and hold our different Collections and sizes before choosing. We’ll also have plenty of time to discuss and make sure you’re happy with your pose. Lots of people ask whether they need to be hairless - you don’t! Just come as you are, however you feel most comfortable.

Not yet, but watch this space - it’s something we hope to add in the not too distant future.

No, we believe all bodies are beautiful - when we edit your digital bust, we spend most time ensuring we will get a clean print that accurately reflects your body. To ensure the highest quality result we ensure the skin has a smooth, hairless and even surface. Although we cut off the arms, legs and head, we never edit the shape of your body.

The scanner can pick up an incredible amount of detail and very often these things do show up. Although we don't believe in photoshopping bodies, if you’d like a scar or mole blurred out, talk to us on the day and we will see what we can do.

We will give you two options. We can either delete your file once you have confirmed the safe receipt of your Bust, or we can safely store your file for 5 years should you one day wish to have it re-printed or it be lost or broken.

Yes, we can arrange to re-print and cast a file provided you have agreed for us to store the file beyond the delivery of your Bust and it is within 5 years of your scan.

Yes, we offer gift vouchers starting at £100. Please email hello@studiobust.com to find out more

Our Busts are low maintenance. All they really need is the occasional wipe with the dust bag we provide (or otherwise a microfibre cloth) to remove dust and smudges. Avoid using harsh chemicals found in some household cleaners. As a tactile object, we encourage you to handle your Bust. Over time the natural oils on your hands will have a beautiful aging effect, adding to its spontaneous beauty. The biggest danger to the Busts is impact. The Liberty collection is likely to crack and splinter if it is dropped onto a hard surface, so we recommend keeping them out of reach of children and on a stable surface.

We are closely following the latest COVID-19 government guidelines to keep everyone as safe as possible. Please send us an email in advance if you would like to bring someone with you and we will review the latest guidance before making a decision.

When you arrive at your appointment, you’ll have plenty of time to relax with a drink while you browse our Collections and then choose your material, finish and size. We’ll discuss the pose you’d like to do and once you’re happy, you’ll sign your paperwork and make payment. Next, you’ll get undressed ready for your sitting. Each of our studio spaces and pop-ups is luxurious, warm and inviting, to make for a comfortable and relaxed experience. We will scan your body using our handheld 3D scanner - an innovative technique which captures your likeness with amazing accuracy. The scan itself only takes only 1-2 minutes, so you’ll only need to hold still for a short time. We’ll try out 3-4 poses with you and review each of them on screen together before finalising your choice of pose and taking another scan if needed to ensure you’ll be happy with the final Bust. After your appointment your scan will be anonymised before being sent for printing and or casting in your chosen material, finish and size.

A female member of our team will perform the scan, with each scan taking 1-2 minutes. We will review your digital scan on screen together to make sure you’re happy and can work through our range of poses to find one that suits you. Once we've finalised your chosen pose, we capture one more scan as we often find our clients feel comfortable and confident which translates beautifully.

Fully nude scans give the best results. If isn’t ok for you, but you’d like a Bust, then do get in touch. We've had clients wear loose fitting seamless thongs with great results and will always do our best to enusre you feel comfortable and that you are in a safe space.

No, you don’t need to be hairless - come as you are, however you feel most comfortable. Hair won’t be visible on finished Bust.

We have tried and tested many different poses and some simply work better than others in terms of the accuracy of the scan and the final look. If there's something you are keen to try let us know or talk to us on the day and we will do our best to accommodate you.

We will send you payment details once you've finalised you pose choice and finish. We accept all major credit cards as well as Klarna and once payment has been received we will move your Bust into production.

We can offer bespoke full body Busts - these take a little longer and will be priced on a case by case basis - please get in touch [hello@studiobust.com][1] with what you have in mind and we will do our best to accomodate you.

Yes, it is completely safe. 3D scanning is a non invasive process during which the scanner remains 1 meter from your body at all times. The source is a flash bulb similar to a camera flash (no laser or UV light). If you have any concerns please speak to your doctor before booking an appointment.

We recommend visiting Studio Bust between 30-35 weeks as we find this is when our clients feel comfortable and confident. It also ensures we capture you before baby arrives. However, if you’d rather have it earlier or if you’ve managed to get a last minute appointment and are further along in your pregnancy, that is also totally fine! If you have any questions on your timing then do send us an email.

Our scanner’s light does not pose any risks to individuals who are not affected by photo-sensitive epilepsy. If you have photo-sensitive epilepsy we are not able to offer you a scan. If you are unsure in any way, please contact your doctor before booking an appointment.

Our scanner uses structured light technology, the flash is the same as you’d find on a regular camera, it just flashes at a much higher frequency. The brand of scanner we use is in use in the medical industry - but if you’d like to know more, please do get in touch and we can provide further details. If you have any health related concerns, do contact your doctor before booking an appointment.

Visit our appointment page on the website where you can choose a date and time that suits you. You’ll pay a deposit of £100 to secure your booking which will be deducted from the final price of your Bust.

Our packaging is carefully chosen to protect and care for the Bust but also with sustainability front of mind. We have recently started using compostable and water soluble starch based foam - we are so excited to have found a sustainable and safe way to transport your Busts and hope you'll be able to reuse it or simply recycle or dissolve it in water when you are finished with it.
