Bust Portraits : Matilda Goad
Matilda Goad is the visionary and creative behind her eponymous brand, whose signature scalloped lampshades propelled her into the spotlight. Whether it’s door knobs or bath mats, Matilda has continued to reinvent a host of modern day essentials, bringing with it a playful edge and a dose of nostalgia.
We were thrilled to sit down with Matilda to talk about the importance of balance and discover a few of her favourite things.
Tea or Coffee?
Both! Coffee in the morning always and we get through lots of cups of tea in the studio
We know you love a flea market, what is your favourite ever find?
When I think about it most of my most treasured pieces are from flea markets, totally priceless, from a sheer sherbet yellow lace dress to a wicker floor lamp
We use our Matilda Goad cutlery every day, which is your favourite piece you’ve designed and why?
That makes me so happy to hear, I love the simple things that elevate the everyday! The Scallop Lampshade is what helped bring my brand to a wider audience but it’s often the latest launch that excites me the most, our new hardware has filled such a gap for me, for affordable handles I wanted for myself and is one of our fasting growing categories.
We loved seeing glimpses of your beautiful home and adore your hidden TV cabinet and stair-gate pictured here. What’s the no.1 piece of advice you give to those embarking on a renovation?
Try and find the balance between practicality and beauty, be realistic.
What would your ultimate Friday night look like?
I love the idea of getting dressed up and staying out dancing late but after a busy week I love nothing more than cozying up at home, cooking something delicious and cherishing time with my little fam
When did you choose to visit Studio Bust and where have you got your Bust on display?
I had my Bust taken when I was eight months pregnant with my son, and it sits on a shelf in my bathroom, it’s such a cherished piece of a time I hold to so close to my heart

Most worn item in your wardrobe?
Right now a sheepskin gillet from Soeur
Favourite book :
I think everyone should own a copy of ‘the things you can see only when you slow down’ it’s the perfect book to pack up, open on a page and help reset a mind that’s wandered.

Margarita on the rocks, a little salt
